Our Ethos

A small federation of small schools in South Norfolk. We are making the schools that we would have wanted to go to. By working together in collaboration, we improve one another and support each other to grow. Sunflowers are known for their resilience and symbolise hope, happiness, and growth. Our federation nurtures childrens’ academic, personal, and spiritual growth. It inspires children, staff, and parents to strive for excellence in all aspects of their life, just as sunflowers grow towards the sun and reach their full potential.

The roots, for Brooke CE VC’s church foundations, indicate that we are rooted and grounded in God's love, which is at the core of all our actions and educational philosophy. The stem represents our curriculum, which provides a strong foundation for our children across both schools to grow and thrive. The leaves symbolise our values, which drive our decision-making and behaviour. The petals are indicative of our key focuses such as DEI, careers, and compassion. Lastly, the bees and butterflies that are flying away from the sunflower represent the things that we want our children to leave us with, which are the skills, knowledge, and attitudes needed to make a positive impact in the world.

Welcome to Hempnall Primary School.

I joined Hempnall Primary School as Executive Headteacher in September 2021, having been Headteacher at Brooke Primary School for just over three years. Our continued partnership between Brooke and Hempnall Primaries, which started in September 2021 is a really exciting time for both schools. The two schools have so much that they are able to celebrate, collaborate on, and share with one another.

The school is situated in amazing grounds. We are blessed with great playground space, a fabulous field and a wooded area for the children to play in. We offer all of our children regular outdoor learning sessions, which helps to develop a much greater understanding of the world around them, how to work well as a team and skills that can't traditionally easily be learnt in the classroom.

We are focussed on our new school rules - the 4 Rs: Ready, Respectful, Responsible and Reflective. These are the pillars by which we celebrate and recognise the amazing things that children in our school do every day. We use a recognition approach to behaviour management, celebrating and recording when children do the right thing. We reprimand, reflect and repair in private, encouraging those children who might have made a wrong choice, or not followed one of our rules, to have a fresh start, and get back to doing the right thing. This works so well for our children, and encourages them to feel part of a nurturing approach to school.

We also focus on our 6 school values. Co-operation, independence, participation, concentration, imagination and perseverance. These 6 values form the basis of our recognition and effort awards in our weekly celebration assembly, where we can celebrate the learning achievements or attitudes of those children who have gone over and above that week.

Under my leadership, we are developing the school in three key areas: Leadership and management; Teaching; and the Curriculum. The whole staff team, whatever their role in school, are involved in this development process, giving your child consistency in expectations, respect and teaching and learning culture in school.

We are focussed on ensuring that the wellbeing of those in our school community is key to our successes as a school. The children are given the opportunities to reflect on their learning and opportunities outside and inside to ensure that they are happy, healthy and well. We have a qualified Mental Health First Aider on site, Mrs Saul, and she is also a Thrive Practitioner, offering a nurturing provision for those children who need individual support.

We welcome visits to our amazing school, and I would love the opportunity to showcase what makes Hempnall Primary a great place to learn and teach.
